Reducing waste

Coloplast continues to see year-on-year improvements to the amount of waste generated per product. Our new sustainability assessment tool used in the product design phase includes a waste parameter, which will support further improvement on reducing waste.

Recycling waste

Our waste recycling efforts mainly focus on our major production sites in Hungary, which are responsible for 80% of Coloplast’s total production waste. As we look ahead, we will expand our focus by sharing best practices and further improving our performance across waste streams at all our sites globally.

Today, we recycle 75% of our production waste. This means, we’ve reached our 2025 goal ahead of time.

Most of our production waste is generated at our production sites in Hungary, and the recycling of this waste is the key driver behind our recycling performance. As we expand our production to other sites, such as our newly established site in Costa Rica, we are focusing on maintaining our high rate of recycling - not least by identifying new use cases and recycling partners.

In the coming years, we will expand our approach to sustainable waste management even further by focusing on higher-value activities such as reducing, reusing and repurposing.

We are exploring new and emerging technologies within mechanical and chemical recycling as well as commercial and applied research partnerships.
